Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in things that create friction in me, moments where something doesn't sit right until I understand why. Lately that's been questions around sameness, mirroring, and how identity blurs between people who are close to each other. Most of the time my work doesn't provide an answer to the question but rather makes me more aware of the complexity of it.
Does art help you in other areas of your life? Describe how art is important to society.
Art has a way of making the familiar strange again. It slows down how we look, and in doing so, it can shift how we treat the people and things around us. For me it's less about offering answers and more about creating a space where certain questions can be looked at directly instead of staying unnoticed.
Tell us about your techniques for overcoming creative blocks.
Whenever I get blocked, I try to find a different way of thinking about the piece, or another approach to work around it. I prefer not to stay stuck waiting for inspiration to strike,- staying in a constant process of work is what helps me push through sudden blocks.
